With a new month upon us, it’s time to make new goals or expand on the ones you’ve already created. We normally think of the typical questions when goal setting – which are important – but it’s helpful to think outside-the-box. This gets your creative juices flowing so you think bigger and expand on those ideas you’ve been dreaming of.
Here are some questions to get your creative juices flowing; however, your goals should be how to make these ideas and goals happen:
- What is the most critical problem that you could act on right now?
- What issue or cause would you want to work on that people say is “too big” to tackle?
- In 2025, you’re giving a keynote at TED: what is the topic of your speech?
- If money were not an issue, what would you do?
- You’re the last living survivor on the planet. What actions are you going to take?
- What would you never regret attempting, even if you failed?
- How can you ensure that you lead a fulfilling life?
- Conversely, what actions will make your life unfulfilling?
- What would you like to do with your time? Where and with whom?
- What would your ideal day be like at work? home? leisure?
As a suggestion, write the first thing that comes to mind as you answer each question as these are usually correct (if you think too much, your conscious brain will take over and your may rationalize you responses). Once you have an answer, expand on it; write out more and visualize it happening.
Now, write a goal for it, along with actionable steps that will make them a reality. To shift the trajectory of your life, commit to taking one tiny step toward realizing your perfect day/ everyday goals. What will you commit to?
“You should set goals beyond your reach so you always have something to live for.” — Ted Turner.
